Meet the Agent: Deborah Dunham - Combining Real Estate with a Passion for Equestrian Living
With over 30 years of experience in the real estate industry, Deborah Dunham brings a rich background and deep passion for helping clients buy and sell homes in the South Sound area. Born and raised in Olympia, real estate is in her DNA—literally. “My grandfather owned Tri City Real Estate, and my mom was a broker for a bit during my childhood,” Deb shares. “I grew up with real estate in my life, and I’ve always been interested in homes and construction.”
Deb’s journey into real estate began after earning a degree in interior design and a minor in business from Western Washington University. While flipping her first home on East Bay Drive, she recognized the value of having a real estate license, particularly as she envisioned building a business combining interior design and home renovation. Today, she brings that expertise to her role at Olympic Sotheby’s International Realty, where she has proudly worked for 15 years.
A Passion for Equestrian Living
One of Deb’s unique strengths is her extensive knowledge of equestrian properties—a passion rooted in a lifelong love of horses. “I started riding horses when I was five years old, and the equine lifestyle is something I’ve always been passionate about,” she explains. This experience makes her a valuable resource for clients seeking properties suited for horses or larger animals.
Her connection to the land is evident in her choice of home as well. Deb lives on a farm in the Boston Harbor area, one of her favorite neighborhoods in Olympia. “I love Boston Harbor because it feels rural and peaceful, yet it’s only minutes from downtown and the westside. You get the best of both worlds—water views, forests, and proximity to city life.”
Life on the Farm
When Deb isn’t helping clients, you can find her on her farm, tending to a variety of animals. “I have emus, ducks, chickens, 3 varieties of quail, golden pheasants, Chinese geese, horses, and a variety of dogs,” she says with a smile. “It’s a lot of work, but I find true pleasure in caring for them, especially the animals with special needs.”
Her love for animals stems from a childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian. While life took her down a different path, her farm allows her to fulfill that passion. Deb has been involved with numerous animal rescues, and her farm property is a sanctuary to several of those rescues still today.
Hidden Gems of Olympia
For those looking to explore Olympia, Deb recommends the Woodard Bay Conservation Area. “It’s one of the largest bat colonies in the world, and it’s beautiful with its walking paths, blue herons, and cormorants nesting at night.” She also highlights local businesses like Popinjay, Compass Rose, Radiance, and Captain Little—unique spots that capture the charm of Olympia’s downtown.
Making Dreams a Reality
For Deb, real estate is about more than just buying and selling homes—it’s about helping clients navigate life transitions. “Seeing my clients achieve their goals—whether it’s a first-time purchase, downsizing, or moving across the country—is incredibly rewarding,” she says. Deb’s background in interior design and her previous general contractor’s license give her a unique edge. “When I walk into a home, I can envision its potential and help my clients see it too.”
She takes pride in offering a concierge-level experience, guiding clients through every step of the process. Deb is dedicated to continuing her education and has achieved many professional designations such as CRS, SRES and ABR. These designations ensure that she stays ahead in the ever-changing real estate landscape.
Giving Back
Deb’s commitment to her community extends beyond her real estate career. She is an active member of Zonta International, an organization dedicated to empowering women and young girls. Locally, the group provides scholarships to students and offers various advocacy and community services.
As someone who was born and raised in Olympia, Deb’s deep knowledge of the community is a significant asset to her clients. “No two transactions are ever the same, and I approach each one uniquely to ensure my clients receive the best possible service,” she emphasizes.
Whether you’re looking to buy a charming farm, an equestrian property, or a cozy home in one of Olympia’s vibrant neighborhoods, Deb Dunham is the agent who will guide you with expertise, passion, and a personal touch.
