#GRGcommunity | The Olympia Yacht Club High School Sailing Team
#GRGcommuntiy
The Puget Sound is one of the defining features of our area. We seek out the water; sometimes for work, for play, for the stunning views, and sometimes just for the serenity. The appreciation for what we have here may not be lived out better than by the Olympia Yacht Club High School Sailing Team.
“Fostering a life long love of sailing through: education, teamwork and racing. OYC High School Sailors learn life skills, come away with memories, and greater self confidence.”
Many of the participants come from both Olympia HS, and Capital HS, but the OYC HS Sailing Team works to pull in students from all over Thurston County, including team members from Black hills and North Thurston HS.
Over the past few years the OYC HS Sailing Team has been making a name for themselves on both sides of the country; not only competing locally, but making trips to California, Texas and Florida.
It is November and you may be thinking to yourself “why are we talking about sailing?” With the success that the team has seen recently, more opportunities to travel and compete become available, which means increased team spending. To help offset some of these expenses the OYC HS Sailing Team is hosting Boats, Beer & BBQ at the Olympia Yacht Club on Saturday November 16th, this be a will great community experience and will feature both a silent and live auction.
If you are looking to support the organization and need a Christmas tree, the Christmas tree farm at 6300 Sunrise Beach Rd in the Steamboat Island community will be hosting a U-Cut Christmas tree sale on November 30th from 10am-4pm and a pre-cut tree sale on December 1st from 10am-2pm in the parking lot of the Olympia Yacht Club in downtown Olympia. All of the proceeds will be going to the OYC HS Sailing Team.
Congratulations to the success of the OYC HS Sailing Team and we look forward to seeing a great season ahead!
